******************************************************************************* Chul-Gi Cho Dan (Tekki 1) // 29 movements ********** NOTE: Every stance in this form is a Horse riding stance with the feet pointing N. There are instances, however, when one should pivot an attack or block in a certain direction to the left or right of the direction N. When this is to be done, it is so noted in the "+", or "direction", column. (See my "Key" on main TKD page.) Because of the uniform Horse stances throughout, the usual column header has been omitted. ********** + Action __ ________________ N Attention (Ready) Cross the Lf over and in front of the Rf, Then, step out with the Rf toward E into: E R open-backhand strike Pivot body (chest-E) L elbow strike (into the R palm) W Chamber both fists @ left hip Trun head sharply toward W R elbow strike (L fist chambered vertically above the R fist) (this is sometimes refered to as "small hinge shape") L low forearm block R horizontal punch Cross the Rf over and in front of the Lf, Then, step out with the Lf toward W into: N R middle inward forearm block (done with ulna side of wrist) Next, the left arm does an upward sweeping block as the right arm swings down into a low forearm block (toward N) Next, bring L arm sharply into a middle inward forearm block (ulna side) (R fist under the L elbow to block) Turn head sharply toward W. W Looking toward W, Chamber the Lf up as close to the pelvis as possible and do what is called a "returning wave kick". This acts sort of like an inside crescent kick at first, performing either a foot sweep or blocking a kick. Then, the leg swings back out (returning wave) as you return to a horse stance. (This is a move inherant to Japanese forms, and is not a technique most TKD practitioners are used to.) Replace the Lf into the Horse stance (chest-W) Do: L outward middle block (ulna side of wrist) R fist guarding, palm-down, under the L elbow. E Look sharply toward E. Right "returning wave kick" (as above) Replace the Rf into Horse (chest-E) Do: L inward middle forearm block (ulna side of wrist) (toward E) W Turn head sharply toward W. Chamber both fists to the R hip. This is a right elbow strike toward S, with the L fist chambered vertically above it. ("small hinge shape"). Look toward W, and snap both fists out into: Parallel punches Without moving the stance, cross arms and do (toward W): L open backhand strike ********** NOTE: From here, the pattern repeats the entirety of the above motions, but is mirrored for the opposite side. That is, you finish the form by repeating all of the above motions, but do them to the opposite sides for which they were before. Accordingly, you must also do them with the opposite hands/feet that you used above. ********** You should finish the form with Parallel punches toward E and Your stance should be a Horse stance, with toes pointing toward N, as is every other stance in the form. Pull the Rf->Lf Geuman.
